What to Wear to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour (by Era)

Okay, lovers… I gathered advice from some of the most devoted Swifties I know to bring you a one-stop guide to styling your outfit for Taylor Swift’s Eras tour.

The main note I took away is this: you’ll pick an ‘era’ (a Taylor Swift album and the vibe/world it created) as inspiration, and let the pop star within you shine. From there, we get specific. For such a brilliant songwriter, it’s amazing how much is said in what goes unsaid… I am, of course, referring to the classic Taylor Swift “easter egg”. Essentially, you’ll get extra points (and respect from the most devoted Swifties in the stadium) by styling your fit to reference an iconic lyric, music video, or pop culture moment from your ‘era’.

Without further adieu, here is your Taylor Swift Eras Tour styling inspo… by era:

debut

Aww, remember early Taylor? This is where cowboy boots and denim shorts will make an appearance. Style them with that early curly hair Taylor used to rock, or lace tops and maxi skirts. Debut dressers, your go-to color is green.

FEARLESS

This was the start of Taylor’s fairytale love story (Love Story) era. It’s full of gold, shimmering, fantastical dresses. Fun references would be: the girl-next-door from You Belong With Me, or Joe Jonas’s ‘well-pressed suit’ from Mr. Perfectly Fine.

SPEAK NOW

We’re continuing to live out our fairytale fantasies here, but now your color is purple. Whether taking a sparkly princess or school-girl (Story of Us) route, we are healing our inner children with this era.

RED

Yes, to rock a Red Era look you can wear the color red (it's all about a red lip). But the era is also defined by a nostalgic vintage vibe. Think 1950s. It’s a fun one because references (scarf from All Too Well) will still be top of mind from ‘Taylor’s Version’.

1989

The Red-era vibe evolves into a kind of hipster, “twee” aesthetic here. (For reference, this album came out in 2014). We’re still rocking that “red lip classic thing that you like”, but this time you’ll want to break out the Polaroid camera, throw on striped t’s, and let those waistlines rise.

REPUTATION

It’s all-black everything, it’s leather and lace, it’s snake-skin and skin-tight… it’s the edgiest Taylor era and it’s so fun to style.

LOVER

Okay, we’re sparkling again! Lover is dreamy, ethereal, and pastel. It’s rainbows and butterflies and everything through rose-colored glasses. If you’re going for a Lover-coded fit, don’t be shy with the glitter.

FOLKLORE / EVERMORE

I’m pairing these albums because they’re buddies and live in a similar autumnal, cottage-core world. We’re getting cozy here. The vibe is flannels and cardigans (put it on and say it’s your favorite) over airy dresses and combat boots.

MIDNIGHTS

Okay if Taylor’s last album is your era, you’re gonna want to dress in midnight navy and look like the glittering sky on a starry night. Taylor’s Grammy dress is a good point of reference for you. Anything with stars also could also fly here.
