Styles to Play Around with in Winter 2024

When it comes to winter style, the sweet spot lies somewhere in not just keeping warm but feeling warm, both physically and emotionally. When the elements become harsh, we can let layers, softness, and comfortable textures take the lead. Winter dressing is fun in that way, though if we’re being honest, the overwhelming rise and fall of fashion trends is a little less comforting. There will be some sort of new hyper-specific and cutely titled aesthetic bucket or “must-have” item at every corner. But the truth is, they’re not all worth your money and attention, and in any case… that’s no way to build a wardrobe that really makes you feel good. 

Here’s my philosophy: trends are visual inspiration, not rules. Pay attention to what genuinely excites you. Notice how visual cues align not with the newest “core,” but with your core style. Moving from a place of inspiration means that we can integrate pieces to reflect our current moment and identity while also investing in clothes that will last.

With that in mind, welcome to a little winter trend report. Here, we’ll lay out five trends making their way through the cultural expression this winter 2024, and a range of great products to shop for each trend that grabs you. 

Animal Queendom: Leopard Print, Bold Furs, and Shearlings

We probably don’t need to tell you this one — faux furs and leopard prints are everywhere. And on everything, too. The classic nod to luxury fashion is making appearances in everything from oversized coats to cozy accessories. Faux fur and leopard prints are honestly a great way to effortlessly elevate your wardrobe and so versatile. Pairing a bold fur coat with sweats for a laid-back coffee run or top off a holiday party outfit with a bit of cozy texture. It’s both vintage and modern, sophisticated and fun. This winter in particular, people are integrating the luxury classic in a way that feels so free-spirited, stylish, and cool. 

Deep Red and Chocolate brown

Another one that’s certainly no secret: burgundy is having a major moment right now. People are reaching for warm, deep, rich tones this season. It’s drenching us in the comforts of hot cocoa, mulled wine, and cappuccinos. The maroons and warm browns in particular feel like a luxury take on classic, almost vintage holiday hues. In an interesting little response to hyperfeminine trends that have been taking over, those coquette accents are now being mingled with things like bulky blazers, trousers, and even ties. Suiting elements in women’s fashion have historically consistently come around to make both social and aesthetic statements. These products are great to own beyond season and trend, but this winter they’re also worth playing around with for everyday and even evening wear.

Classic Apres Ski

The snow, the mountains, and all of their aesthetics tend to have a timeless hold on winter fashion. Is there anything cozier than channeling the magic of a snowy cabin getaway? This year, it’s heavy on classic Swiss Alps iconography and styles. The look falls somewhere between eclectic grandpa and chalet chic. It’s something you might love if you’re into nostalgic vintage styles and that good holiday hygge.

Statement and Personalized Accessories

Finally, when it comes to accessorizing this season, the coolest thing is to make it feel like you. We’ll see people getting creative with colored or patterned tights and socks or adorning their bags and shoes in jingling charms and personal touches. From bangles to bags to belts, there will be big, chunky silhouettes that won’t mind grabbing attention. Of course, you don’t “need” every trending accessory that passes your feed.
