7 Tips For Shopping When You're In-Between Sizes
The struggle of finding clothes when you’re in-between sizes can be frustrating and annoying. I know for me, it is. Whether your clothes are too short, too long, too big, or too small, shopping can be quite disappointing especially when you like a cute dress, or find the best jeans. Do you cry a little inside when you put the clothes back on the rack? However, there are different tips you can follow, to help you put together cute looks that won't make you feel like you have to go shopping every few weeks.
Looser Fabrics
Let’s start with the obvious one… looser fabrics! Investing in looser-fitting fabrics will help you feel more freeing, confident, not too snug, and will look more flattering on your body. Looser fabrics can also be worn in a way that can hug you in just the right places to help show off your shape in a great way. Now your confidence will shine bright because you will feel amazing in your outfits.
Stretch Clothing is Great When You Fluctuate Sizes
If you haven’t added stretch clothing to your wardrobe yet, then you really need to try it for yourself. Stretchy clothes are the best because they can really fit you at many different points when your body can fluctuate. If you size up then your stretchy outfits still have room without making you feel too tight.
Take it from me, I am someone who is in-between pants sizes depending on the season, or if I am doing well on my health and exercise journey (Which can fluctuate by the week). Wearing stretchy jeggings is what really keeps me from feeling overly tight, especially in the waist and thighs. They really have been so helpful, which makes my confidence still go strong.
Also stretch materials for dresses, shirts, skirts, and jackets are also really great pieces that will make you feel confident without feeling too tight, and still make you feel comfortable.
Invest in High-Quality Materials
This is a long-term goal when budgeting for clothes. Investing in high-quality materials will hang on your body in a more flattering way compared to materials that are too thin or feel too tight on you. Higher quality materials will also make your clothes last longer, and help you find a size that fits you better. I’m not talking about overly expensive clothes, but materials that are made thicker that won’t shrink, after the first wash. Which is super annoying right?
Elasticated Waistbands
Wearing stretchy clothes with elastic waistbands is really useful when in-between sizes. They are great when you feel like you may need more room, or to show off your curves, to give you the best flattering shape. You can find elasticated waistbands in everything from dresses, pants, and skirts to add great pieces to your wardrobe.
Wrap dresses
Wrap dresses are great for all body types. They are perfect if you need more room in the tummy area and look amazing on both tall and short women as well. Wrap dresses are flattering for all body types because they really show off the parts that you want to highlight, whether it be your long legs, small waist, or your petite figure. For me, I have wide hips, which a wrap dress would do great to wrap around my waist for a narrow look.
Belts
Belts can actually be the perfect accessory if you’re in-between sizes. Belts are great if you’re wearing loose clothing as they really accentuate your shape while making your outfit more structured. Wearing belts are also great for pants that maybe are still loose in the waist but fit you everywhere else. Yes, as a girl that is in-between sizes, this happens often. But using belts can really help tighten the loose waist that you might get when wearing pants. Regardless, belts are great accessories for any outfit.
Clothes Should Fit YOU, Not the Other Way Around
Every woman is beautiful and unique in their own way. You want your clothes to make you feel confident and fit your style. Sometimes it’s easy to get lost in trying to make the clothes fit you, but, you want your clothes to make you feel comfortable and confident.
Find the Size That Feels the Best
This can be a hard decision when trying to find clothes that are the right size. You try on two sizes, one can be great but a little snug or the other is great but is a little big. The best decision in my opinion is always to size up. Then you can try cuffing for sleeves or pants if they are too big, or you can also bring your item to a tailor to really make your item fit you. Remember, clothes are an investment for the long term to bring out your inner confidence, so your clothes should always make you feel that way.
