Wonderful Women-Centered Organizations To Donate to This Giving Tuesday

The week following Thanksgiving and the remainder of December can become a little overwhelming when it comes to navigating our consumer culture. But at the heart of it all, ideally, is the spirit of giving and gifting.

So with all of the post-turkey gratitude we’re feeling coming off of the Thanksgiving holiday, we’d love to take a moment to show some love to the many incredible Women’s Organizations you can donate to this Giving Tuesday.

This holiday season is a critical one when it comes to funding the places making a difference in Women’s lives and rights. So here are a few awesome groups that could use support, depending on the cause you feel most drawn to:

Global Female Empowerment, Equality, and Education

  • Women for Women is a global organization providing social, medical, and economic aid to women in countries under the impact of war and conflict. They’re currently accepting donations to help Ukrainian women who are struggling as a result of the war. For Giving Tuesday, your donation will be matched (up to $50,000), doubling your impact.

  • Women’s Education Project’s “Leadership Academy” provides young women with the skills, education, and empowerment needed to become self-reliant leaders in their communities. They create a worldwide impact by helping marginalized women to pursue education, enter the workforce, and engage in making positive change.

  • The Malala Fund works in various locations around the globe to empower communities of girls and women to pursue education and become leaders. The goal is to address the barriers stopping women from receiving safe, equal, free access to education, introducing girls to their potential.

  • MADRE fuels human rights movements for gender equality and justice in communities struggling with war and disaster. They help various small women’s rights organizations and campaigns to gain the attention, funds, and momentum they need to meet their goals. Yifat Susskind, MADRE’s executive director, encourages the world to “Think Like A Mother” to create powerful, positive change.

Reproductive Rights

  • Center for Reproductive Rights is a human rights organization aiming to provide safe access to reproductive care to women and people worldwide. Through litigation and advocacy, their goal is for reproductive freedom and access to care to be considered a basic and essential human right (by law) for people everywhere. When you donate right for Giving Tuesday, your gift will be tripled.

  • Sister Song supports fundamental health care for Indigenous women and women of color in the United States. The group is doing the crucial work of A) making sure the right to bodily autonomy is an equal and innate right for all people. And B) adding the point of intersectional oppression to the discussion of reproductive rights and gender equality.

  • Ipas believes that a legal right to an abortion is only the start of creating safe, comprehensive, accessible reproductive care for all people. Their goal is to create what they call “sustainable abortion ecosystems” in countries across Africa, Asia, and The Americas by spreading information and building support systems.

Women’s Safety and Justice For Survivors of Assult and Abuse

  • RAINN (or the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the US’s largest organization tackling sexual violence. The same organization, by the way, created the Sexual Assault Hotline (1-800-656-4637). Some of their work includes educational programming to prevent sexual violence, care for survivors, and justice initiatives.

  • Take Back The Night is working to end sexual violence through advocacy and support for survivors. The movement dates back to college campuses in the 1970s when women threw parties and protests to reclaim their control, power, and autonomy, particularly at night. Their efforts shed light on gender-based safety issues in everyday environments.

  • Black Mammas Matter Alliance works to address racial injustices and inequity within reproductive and maternal healthcare. They start by implementing and advocating for policy change for safer outcomes for black mothers in healthcare spaces. From there, they provide extra support through holistic health approaches and amplifying voices.

Empowering Girls

  • Girls Rising is an organization started by the female-led rock band, Antigone Rising. They aim to help young girls and queer kids navigate male-dominated careers and hobbies. Through story, performance, and workshops, Girls Rising encourages kids to pursue dreams, find mentors, and build community as they tackle any hurdles they might face.

  • She’s The First partners with grassroots organizations in 42 countries around the world that work within their local communities to provide resources to girls. Each of these organizations works on an intimate, localized level to make sure girls are brought up with an education and a voice. They have set their sights on raising $10,000 this Giving Tuesday to help their 2023 agenda of increasing girls’ awareness of their rights and innate power.

  • Girl On The Run is a national nonprofit that provides programming for elementary and middle school girls based around a combination of athletics, community, and self-growth. They strive to strengthen confidence in these girls from a young age, providing tools to combat the gender stereotypes and discriminations they might come across.

  • Gyrl Wonder supports young women of color by shedding light on their power and potential and providing them with resources in striving toward their professional goals. Their approach is supportive and holistic from advocating for mental wellness to engaging in community service and introducing women to mentors and opportunities on their career path.

Happy giving, fam! And keep in mind, as always: Any amount helps.
